This foundational course offers a broad overview of the field of dream studies, including current scientific research, cross-cultural approaches to dreaming, and basic techniques for working with dreams. As you compare your own experiences with research done by experts in the field, you will begin to understand how deeply dreams affect the body, emotions, mind, spirit and community. Topics to be covered include dreaming across cultures, ancient dream traditions, dream healing practices, dreaming and the body, dream theories in the 20th century, nightmares, lucid dreaming, and dreaming in world religions.
Sheila Asato is a certified embodied imagination coach, dreamworker and teaching artist. She teaches at the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the U of M. In 2006, Sheila received the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD) international student research award for her original work on creativity and dreaming.
